ok heres the story -
we went to this rail during a rail trip in western new york and it was our second day going back to it. its got a pretty cool history since it was hebbels opener and ender of his love/hate part, and it was in a few other videos that we all grew up watching. While we started out with high hopes and good spirits that day, things began to take a turn for the worse. the snow was starting to melt a little bit due to the crazy east coast weather patterns and we werent sure how long it would last that day. matty mo was taking it easy because of a minor injury from the day before, but ben farrell and myself had some big tricks planned. i got a different trick pretty quick and wanted to get the cab 270 really bad. ben was trying fs180 sw nosepress also, which would have been his ender shot easily. about 45 minutes into the session ben committed a little too hard and tacoed, catching his arm on a support in the process. snap. he breaks his arm in half and needs to be rushed to the hospital. since we didnt have enough room to fit everyone in the car, mark dangler and I decided to stay so i could keep trying to get my trick. pretty soon after they leave it starts pouring rain. you cant really tell from the footage but it rained for the rest of the time we were there. by this point i am freaking out because my friend pretty much just ended his season and I am left trying to battle this rail by myself. i definitely started to go a little crazy and have never gotten this frustrated before. the rail also has a couple weird things about it that can prevent getting your trick pretty easily. first off, the stairs are wood which is always nice, but they also were angled towards the rail, so if you ride down those bad boys you gotta avoid riding into one of the many supports. the other main flaw was that the landing is uphill, and that combined with the high speed you end up with at the end of the rail makes it really hard to ride away from. not to mention that theres 35 stairs that you have to walk up everytime. anyways, i ended up trying this trick anywhere from 150-200 tries by myself, in the pouring rain, while my friend was being rushed to the hospital. the last fall left me with pretty bruised up elbows and knees, and a severely bruised ego. i can honestly say that this was my least favorite day of snowboarding, ever. heres a few of the attempts where i got close. i hope you enjoy watching me struggle. next time hopefully someone will be there to kill me

For those of you who don't already know, our good friend/rider/farmer that eats, sleeps, & breathes amurica, Trevor Rhoda, suffered a head injury last week at a late season snowboard gathering in Michigan. He has since been in the hospital in a medically induced coma due to a fractured skull. So far, even though he is not conscious yet, he has been showing great positive signs of recovery. He has been in stable condition ever since his surgery & is slowly being taken off of the paralytic medications. It may be a long road ahead, but Trevor is one of the toughest kids we know & he will surely power through this like a champ. We're not sure how exactly he'll be affected by the damage to his brain but personally I think he'll be back on the board in no time & be the same exact person we all know. All we can do right now is keep him in our thoughts & pray that everything is going to go back to normal. So if you know him, or even if you don't, take a minute of your day to send good vibes his way. He & I & all of us would really appreciate it! That's about all we can do at the moment but the immense amount of love that we've seen thus far has been truly amazing & it's exactly what he needs to get through this!

I met Brandon Hobush last year up at Brighton while we were hiking a down rail. Ever since I met him I have been amazed how good he is, Every time I see footage of the kid I am blown away. He is always doin new shit. He just got first at the TransAm at bear, and has won almost every contest at Brighton. Brandon should have some shots in THE LEAK.

After watching this video I am sure you will agree with me.

So I spent Thursday-Sunday in Aspen shooting at the X for Monster. It was a pretty awesome trip & those guys definitely know how to take care of their peoples. Thanks to everyone there who hooked it up.. Big Ev, Dresser, Davey, etc., I had a blast. Here are some photos to sum it up.

Today was pretty rad woke up grabbed some coffee, got a call from Eric Fernandez regarding a skateboard session, (since it doesn't snow in SLC) and thought that I should join. I mostly just chilled with Buster the dog in the first photo, but I did end up ripping around the bowls for a minute! super fun, and my stomach stayed together!

After a good skate session, I went home to find in the mail my first paycheck ever from Burton snowboards! haha thirty five dollars! Brandon and I were super pumped about it. (Really I just got reimbursed)

Then Blotto showed up again, he is a traveling Gypsy!

Sean and I went up to ride brighton and we saw Ben Gustafson and Pat Fenelon pull up in the sweet Team Thunder van. While Ben was parking he almost slid into a parked car, but Sean and I used our guns and muscled the van from crashing. We ended up having a good day boardin, and Pat made a sweet lil edit.

So for a few weeks now I have been healing from a recent injury... sucks. So I decided to make some approach skis, (thanks to Jason Heckle). Now don't confuse yourself with a split board, these are made to hike up the mountain with your regular board on your back. They are much shorter than your average split board. I think they are sick, for a couple reasons. Split boards are sick for shredding powder, but jumping can be rough due to the flex in the board. Approach skis are sick because they are short enough to put on your back while you shred your face off down the mountain or stop to build a sweet kicker. I'm doing mine very low budget, I used my really old 146 Burton custom That I found in the garage, and I'm still working on the binding situation. Enjoy! AA same way.

I was working on this post this morning but ran out of time before we went out:

"We made it until January 24th without getting kicked out of one spot, which is insane for Utah, not to mention ticket-free. Shoveling/setting up for an hour in -1 then getting the boot isn't sweet either way though. Rebate will be had. The next morning we decided to road trip out of Utah since it somehow snowed 7 feet in the mtns without snowing in the valley. The crew was Parker Duke, Ted Borland, Sean Black, & Brandon Hammid. We hopped in the truck & set off to a zone we knew of but ended up coming across a new gem.. basically the red Quebec ledge but in rail form. Don't think this thing will ever see half the tricks the ledge has seen though because the donkey is GNARLY. It was officially the 2nd longest session in my personal history coming in hot at 6 hours."

Now, 8 hours later, no longer ticket-free thanks to Park City PD. No shots. Definitely not going back to rebate the spot 2 blocks away. Oh well, Aspen better be fun is all I have to say.

Although it hasn't snowed in the city recently, the snow has stuck around thanks to the inversion, which is the worst I've ever seen. 5 Utah cities have ranked top 5 worst air in the nation for about 5 days now (Logan, Ogden, Salt Lake, Provo, & some random place). Blotto decided to leave his downtime in AZ to come up & shoot/stay at Sean's so we've been out almost every day in this crap air. I've actually only been out maybe 7 days total this year & still have yet to film a single rail.. Well, a single rail that doesn't involve a gap to it. Either way, the edit with all of these features should turn out pretty sweet & definitely is on the creative tip. I've been trying to compose my shots of these spots with more of a photographic eye & I'm real happy with most of them that I've been able to do so with. It has also been very helpful to have other filmers around for 2nd angles that can capture the action from other views to compliment it. (Thanks to Aaron Leyland, Sean Lucey, & Mark Dangler for the help shooting with Alex Andrews, Sean Black, Tucker Andrews, Brandon Hammid, & Zak Hale.)

November was pretty dry. Really dry. Somehow Fort Boner retained its snow & Brighton managed to open earlier than scheduled with a ton of man-made. Good times but no pow.
